Cadel Evans and Shane Kelly host inaugural cycle event for Ernst & Young from Elwood to Mornington new addition to corporate social calendar for Melbourne Ernst & Young today announced that more than 70 business and government leaders, Ernst & Young staff and their families will participate in the first ‘Cycle to the Peninsula’, cycling from Melbourne’s beachside suburbs to the Mornington Peninsula.
Australian cycling champions Cadel Evans and Shane Kelly, along with AFL Grand Final footballer Shane Crawford, will lead three groups of cyclists on a coastal route from Elwood Surf Club to Morning Star Estate in Mornington.
More than 120 family members and colleagues will greet the cyclists at the finishing line with 200 people attending the family day at the Morning Star Estate in Mornington. Funds raised from auction items on the day will be donated to Red Kite, one of Ernst & Young’s nominated charities, which provides support services for children and young people with cancer and their families.
Ernst & Young Melbourne Office Managing Partner, Annette Kimmit, said with participants from across all sectors including government and the financial, retail, resources and manufacturing sectors, it promised to be an enjoyable day.
Ms Kimmit said the Ernst & Young Cycle to the Peninsula provided clients and staff with the opportunity to connect in a different way out of the office, while spending time with their families.
“Cycling as a sport continues to grow in popularity both from a professional and amateur perspective. This event aligns strongly with our commitment to the wellbeing of our people and our team approach to our client relationships,” Ms Kimmit said.
“It’s an opportunity for Melbourne leaders to reflect on and celebrate the year gone by and ponder the opportunities and challenges of the year ahead.
“They’ll also experience the unique thrill of having two of Australia’s greatest ever cyclists and world champions, Shane Kelly and Cadel Evans, personally helping them hone their technique and getting them to the finishing line,” Ms Kimmit said.
Ms Kimmit said she had been delighted with the response to the first Cycle to the Peninsula and would look to build on the momentum of the event next year to ensure it becomes an anticipated annual event in the Melbourne business calendar. Ernst & Young will consider rolling the event out across its national offices in years to come.
The cyclists participated in training sessions with Shane Kelly in the weeks leading up to the ride.
Ms Kimmit said Melbourne was expecting fine weather conditions for Sunday: “We look forward to a great event, both on-road and off,” Ms Kimmit said.
