OLYMPIC cyclist Shane Kelly is putting Melbourne riders to the test.
Retired Olympic cyclist Shane Kelly has opened a new store in Richmond.
Opened recently in Richmond, Kelly’s Cycle Room invites people to bring your own bike for indoor spin sessions led by the champion himself.
A five-time Olympian, Ararat born Kelly retired from competitive cycling in 2008.
Despite a hugely successful career that netted three Olympic and 14 Commonwealth Games medals, he’s often associated with an infamous mishap: when his foot slipped from the pedal at the start of a 1000m time trial he was a raging favourite to win in Atlanta 1996.
Since retirement, Kelly has diverted his career towards training new riders.
‘‘I want to put my experience as a professional cyclist to good use and hopefully motivate and inspire others,’’ Kelly said.
‘‘If I can help motivate people to get out, ride more and better their fitness and wellbeing, I’d love that.’’
The Shane Kelly Cycle Room, Richmond, is suitable for all levels of skill and fitness and offers sessions six days a week. Details: shanekelly.net.au.
